One of the techniques that helps me transition to healthier eating is the reflection technique. To reflect a command is a kind of trick, a trick about how to outwit your own mind, casting it as a naive child under the care of a loving parent. In practice, it looks very simple, but some people will have to sweat a little to master it. But trust me, this skill is worth having; it helps tremendously in restructuring your habits, not just with food.

What does it mean to reflect? Perhaps it's harder to explain than to show or do, but I'll try. I'll explain the technology itself, and maybe you'll understand why it works the way it does.

So, imagine we're working with the tip of an arrow shot from a bow. A command to do something (anything) is an arrow that's already flying along a predetermined trajectory. We can't change its direction; the arrow is already in flight. But what can we do? We can swap out the target itself! It's best to do this right before the arrow hits the bullseye, not earlier. That way, the archer will be less nervous and won't have time to raise the alarm. The energy the archer used to launch the arrow will be spent. The desire to do what the arrow was originally aimed at will no longer arise. With food, at least for me personally, this works flawlessly.

For example, if you like to have a bottle or two of beer in the evenings after work, replace it with soda, some Sprite or Coca-Cola — but only when you're already in the store, having come to buy beer. See, I'm not saying you need to jump two heads higher to freshly squeezed juice right away; it's better if the swap is almost equivalent, so you don't feel like you were supposed to have sex today but it ended up being just simple, friendly conversation. Don't give your mind reasons for hysterics; it's enough if it just furrows its brows (like — "something's off here, but okay, it's not fatal"). If you like soda, replace it with juice in the same way — you came for 0.5 liters of soda, you leave with 0.5 liters of juice — you just swap the target, spending the energy of the desire that developed during the craving, which was generated initially as soon as the thought of what you wanted arose. If it's treats for tea, same thing — replace regular cookies with oatmeal ones, replace candies with dates (in Mexico, there's some trouble with dates, and if anyone can tell me which stores usually carry them here, I'd be very grateful). Replace coffee with chicory (I know, it's tough; I've been a coffee lover since childhood myself, but it's only hard at first, and once the coffee addiction is gone, you can stop drinking chicory), replace bagged tea with herbal tea (they even sell it at Pyaterochka now).

At the beginning, temptations may arise to mess yourself up again (Perdon por mi español), but please, endure a couple of days, at least for the sake of the experiment, and by the second day, you'll most likely notice that you want to keep restructuring yourself, moving away from toxic food toward healthy food (ideally, living food). Just give yourself those couple of days.

After some time, you might get the thought that something is clearly wrong with the world, maybe it's even gone off the rails, you might think, since on the shelves of most stores, almost nothing but junk is sold, and only about 5-10% of all that product at least doesn't kill your body, or at least not as fast as various chips, chocolate bars, soda, sausages, beer, and a huge multitude of other pointless and harmful products that don't even deserve to be talked about.

Thankfully, there are still good stores like VkusVill, where you can buy healthy food (check out their delivery service; those guys are really great). In some ways, such food might be more expensive, but it's worth it, because food is the foundation of good health, no matter how you look at it. Strategically, investing in your health is the smartest investment you can make in your lifetime, so study this issue thoroughly, and you'll gain a couple hundred years... of time.;)

But you have to remember that rushing in this matter is clearly unnecessary. The path of small steps is far more effective here. Gradually, little by little. This is a path, and like any path, it requires you to walk on it, to step on it with your whole foot, not try to reach the finish line with your toe as soon as you enter the forest. Accept your path, whatever it may be, make the decision to walk it, and your life will change!
